Peacock bass

I have fished the Quarry for 8 years, mostly in the ponds and now in the main lake, and never seen a peacock bass. I have now caught two in the last week. Both were small, but I'm pretty sure that they are peacocks. Clearly not large mouth and not Mayan cichlids. See the photos. Both were the same small size. I suspect that we might not only have peacocks, but may have a breeding population?

Very cool catch! I am not aware of any other reported catches in the ponds or lake. I have heard of sitings, but this is the proof they're in our waters. I have to agree with this size fish that we either have some breeding going on or someone is stocking fingerlings. Either way, I think it's great news.

Thanks for sharing!
